What counts as “for sale” here
This number is publicly listed inventory: a practice whose broker, or whose state dental association classified section, has published it where a buyer can find it. It does not include practices sold privately between two dentists, practices a broker is marketing quietly to a shortlist, or DSO-to-DSO transactions, none of which are ever published anywhere.
So 3,667 is the floor on how many practices are changing hands, not the ceiling. It is also a subset of the published market: The Dental Practice Market carries 196 sources and deliberately excludes several large aggregators, so a listing can exist and not appear here.
Why the number moves every day
Every source is re-crawled twice a day. A practice that goes under contract or is withdrawn comes off; a practice a broker published this morning is here this afternoon. 260 listings were first published in the last 30 days, counting only ordinary days — days when a new source was onboarded are excluded, because adding a source dumps hundreds of already-for-sale practices in at once and that is not market activity.
